First Aid Kits in Fairview

Friday Dec 18, 2009

This is dedicated to all those who donated money for First Aid Kits in Fairview….it was a blessing

We were able to give out 90 kits to the most needy people in the area, the First Aid Kits included things like;

Disinfectant

General medicine like paracetamol, bandages and bandages

Cough and cold  Medicines

Soap and  toothpaste

Vitamens

Bleach

Washing Powder and more…..

They were collected and packed by a selfless couple who live in Fairview called Ate Edit and Koya Timmy, they own a pharmacy in Fairview and were affected dramatically by the flood, and were anxious to do almost ANYTHING to help us help their neighbours in Fairview, so with this lovely couple we worked closely with. They donated time and resources to distribute the bulk of aid coming into Fairview. We distributed from their pharmacy and goods were dropped off at their address……..so many thanks to them for their sacrifice and help (and all of the Jollibee that they fed the team with!!)

We had the distinct pleasure of taking all of the kids to Fairview on the day we gave out the extra first aid kits, we wanted them to see first hand a relief operation, they saw it!! We had to distribute from a barred area (everywhere is barred in Manila) so the area was secure although the door was left open as we were not expecting a rough crowd. The people were called and the kits were given by the kids and James. We left the people up to a Pastor and Edit and Timmy, they knew who really needed the goods too!

It was interesting to see reactions and faces…..

Koya Timmy and Ate Edit with the kits

The kids and the kits, almost buried in them!

The people waiting outside the gates

Pst Annie, James and Esther (hmmm) organising things. Pst Annie was amazing she coordinated the whole thing and liased between us and the crowd and dealt with attitudes in a respectful Godly manner. I was in awe of her maturity and diplomacy. Go Pst Annie!!!

A happy lady and Troup kids

Giving out the kits! What a blessing to be a blessing!

Even when James came down with severe gastro and food poisoning after this we still had a good day and even tried the Philipino national pastime Karaoke……and LOVED IT!!!!

Know that your money was well spent and appreciated dear ones!!

Outworking Faith

Tuesday Aug 4, 2009

I have been challenged today to simply let my faith be outworked

Go on just do it………..

Don’t think too hard just let people see Jesus…….

2817663_blog

About 2 months ago a girl I have never met in all my life told me AT THE CHECKOUT she had an abortion, there were people there no privacy…….but she still told me (and the people before me too) she was hurting and bleeding her heart all over everyone.

I was so shocked I was speechless……….I did not say anything except ummmm errrrrr……..HMMMMMM

WHAT WAS THAT?????

I was not ready to preach in and out of season, I was unprepared and caught off guard…….I missed a God chance to DO something

I  bet Jesus would have said something………he just EXPECTS garbage to surface when He is around………….why am I different???? I should not be, Lord help me

This scripture is becoming more important to me daily

2 Peter 1:4-6 (New International Version)

4Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;

WHY…………………it speaks of action, Godliness is action……………..Lord hear my cry and help my unbelief!!!

Why Would We Take Kids to Manila? 2

Saturday May 9, 2009

Why Would We Take Our Kids To a Developing Nation??

Before I answer I would encourage you to watch these 2 You Tube Videos, they will answer a lot without words

They address 2 things

APATHY and AFFLUENCE

I think the videos speak for themselves, however….

My children will soon be out of my direct influence,

They will be making life decisions,

I want them to base decisions on a bigger picture and framework.

They need to see how 2 thirds of the world live.

They need to make a difference.

They need to know.

Worry

Wednesday Mar 18, 2009

Worry is a misuse of imagination.
Dan Zadra

887269_sad_eye

It  is an extraordinary thing that we as Christians have the tendency to worry and concern ourselves with things that are beyond our control. Surely we have enough worries sufficient for today than to worry about the unseen issues of the unknown……whispered doubts and fears from the pit of hell itself sometimes.

Matt 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things, Sufficient for  the day is its own trouble”

I am reminded of a story that Corrie Ten Boom recalled when she was a little girl (my paraphrased version)….she was travelling with her father and discussing the weightier issues of life. He simply asked to her to do the following … “Corrie, (who at the time was very little) I want you to pick up my suitcase…” in an innocent manner Corrie attempted to hoist his large travel bag up, and much to her dismay it hardly lifted off the ground, she looked at her Daddy perplexed…as if to say “Why did you ask me to do it , when you knew that I was going to fail???”….

Her father looked at her with great compassion and said, “Dear Corrie, I am trying to show you what humans try to do in life, we try to pick up loads that are far too heavy for us, loads that our dear Father in Heaven never intended for us to carry, they are too big and too complicated for us to bear”

DEAR DEAR FRIENDS

WORRY IS A LOAD THAT NO CHRISTIAN SHOULD BEAR,

GOD NEVER INTENDED US TO CARRY THAT “WEIGHTY SUITCASE” THAT ENCUMBERS, SLOWS US DOWN  AND EVEN PREVENTS US FROM RUNNING THE GOOD RACE THAT IS SET BEFORE US.

Luke 12:22

22 Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. 23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? 25 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 26 If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?
29 “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. 30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things[c] shall be added to you.

Blessings Cathy

Welcome to Hearts and Hands

Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.
Malcolm Forbes, in Forbes Magazine US art collector, author, & publisher (1919 - 1990)

Years ago I read a book that taught me that a child’s  Education must be balanced ART

It must have elements that teach the HEAD
Knowledge, the Three R’s the ability to read, write and spell was only one facet of the whole child
It needed to have elements that teach the HEART
Character, moral and spiritual fibre and backbone, the stuff that produces leaders and influencers
It needed to have elements that released the  HAND
The  outworking, all scholars must prove the worth or substance of their education this is the culmination of their education…it is more than releasing it is goodwill towards others, practical ways of using our hands to help……more like the old LAH in Brownies, Lend a Hand, do something to make another’s life better. What worth is education if it does not lift someone else out of the mire and bad circumstances……

This philosophy has never left me…..To me education is not a process of brainwashing or filling of minds endless facts,  but an opening and blossoming of young and older minds as they desire to know and learn more

This is my desire to share my journey of learning with my family, because learning is a lifestyle that we should embrace and never retire from!!! Blessings Cathy

Education through Plays and Pagents

Thursday Nov 6, 2008
There are many things that i want to do with my little homeschool and a full blown  play was one of them…so I found a little outline of a play which i thought would capture the many facetted needs of a multi age group and set to work…..hired a hall and planning has begun.
Master 15 is writing the script, refuses to be part of it happy to work back stage….ok at least he is at home and wanting to be with us!!! (we should always count our blessings….when I was 15 in a non-Christian home I gave my parents the rebellious flick and was going to pubs dressed like a …….and my friends were skinheads…..it could be a LOT worse)
Miss 13 is a creative springboard and organiser and has ideas for sets and scenes that inspire me….the other kids well….they are waiting till we pass planning and get our hands and acting abilities dirty
There are fires, squatters, bushrangers and soldiers in this play, wow and it is only about 20min long!!! Amazing what you can squish into a short time.
November is going to be a busy month……numerous Christmas pagents that the boys are marching in (3 or 4) then they will be performing in the majestic Andre Rieu concert in a massed band! Displays, old folks homes and a trip to Burra and  more….Dec believe it or not slows down….so that is when our play TAKES OFF.
I did lots of stuff like this with other chn during the years, so it is great mine are old enough now to do it with them….I really get convicted that I spent the best years of my life teaching and spiritually building other peoples kids NOT my own…hmmmmm
So it is my own kids time (yes I do include other families, but it is our baby really)  I just wanted to share my last few plans for the months of 2008….I wanna leave with a bang, not a smoulder!!!
Bless you lovely people as you embrace this last term of teaching, mothering, mentoring and loving…..may this term inspire you as well as your children.
What we do must bring life to us, make our heartbeat stronger, put a smile on our face, and give us hope for tomorrow…..otherwise we must really ask ourselves why are we doing it???  God is a good answer,  but I have found that school is not just about them it is about ALL of the Troups, me included!
Growing expanding and learning together with God
Love always Cathy

PS  Did i tell you that in 3 weeks James is going on a Missions trip to Manila in the slums for 3 weeks (leading worship for meetings too) so I will be alone during this flurry, phew God had better be on tap during that time!!!
